Christmas Unplugged - Using the Law of Attraction to Create Your Holiday, Your Way

By Estelle Gibson

Christmas Unplugged Logo

The Law of Attraction, What is it?

The Law of Attraction is a powerful universal law that affects everything in your life and the lives of those around you.  It is similar to gravity, it is always there, it is working in your life right now. You probably have heard the Law of Attraction stated in many different ways:

  “Like attracts Like”

“Thoughts held in mind produce those in kind”

“Cause and effect”, “What you focus on you attract”

“Whatever you think about either positive or negative, you attract”

“Birds of a feather, flock together”.

In the popular book “The Law of Attraction” by Esther and Jerry Hicks, The Law of Attraction is defined as:

“That which is like unto itself, is drawn”

How does it work?

The Law of Attraction responds to the thoughts and feelings that you hold at all times.  They may be thoughts about the past, observations of something in your present or day dreaming or thinking about something in your future.  You could be complaining about what you don’t have or what you don’t want. The thoughts that you are focused in the PRESENT are creating a vibration in you and the Law of Attraction is responding to it.

Now remember, you may not be doing this deliberately or consciously, but only you have the power to attract what comes into your life.  If you are focusing on something, whether positively or negatively, you are attracting it, even if by default.

Here’s an example.  If I ask you not to think about the color of your car, what happens?  You think about the color of your car.  The universe works in the same way.  When you declare:

“I don’t want any more illness”

“I don’t want to be tired”

“I don’t want to be so fat”

“I don’t want to meet any more jerks”

The universe responds to and provides more:

  ·  Illness

·  Tiredness

·  Fat

·  More Jerks

Now, for the science behind it.  Everything that exists vibrates at some subatomic level and your thoughts and feelings have a vibratory frequency.

The barometer for your vibrations is your emotions and feelings. Whenever you feel and have emotion about something, you create a vibration for it and that vibrational frequency- like a radio transmitter, draws to you those things that vibrate at the same frequency.

If you give your attention to the negative things in your life and focus on what you don’t have, instead of what you want by talking about it and complaining about it, then you feel the feelings of frustration, overwhelm, worry and fear, sadness. You are now vibrating at the level of those feelings and you will attract things that are a match to that vibration….those things that make you feel more frustration, overwhelm, worry, fear, sadness.

The more you are a match to that frequency, the stronger the vibration that you are transmitting and the more you attract at that frequency.

The Bottom line…. you get what you think about and what you feel, whether you want it or not.

How do I use the Law of Attraction to Create my Holiday Season?

Here’s a tool that will assist you in shifting your vibration and attracting what you want for your holiday season and in your life.

Creating Clarity Tool

This tool helps you to get clear on what you desire and begin to focus on it, thereby using the Law of Attraction to attract it to you.  Complete this tool for your Ideal Holiday or Christmas Season, or for any of the individual activities, interactions, parties, spending, etc. related to the season.

1. You’ll need a blank piece of paper.  Draw a line across the top of the paper about an inch from the top.  From the center of this line, draw a line down the middle to create a large “T”.

2. At the top write: My Ideal _____ (i.e. My Ideal Christmas, Holiday, Event)

3. Label the left column “Don’t Want” and the right column “Do Want”

 SO WHAT DO I WANT?

4. In the column on the left, make a list of the things that you don't like or want to experience this holiday.

 5. Now, read through the list and in the column on the right list the opposite of what you don't want, listing it in a positive way, stating what you do want- including how you want to feel.

Note:  You can create a separate clarity list for any of the individual activities, interactions, parties, spending, etc. related to the season.

6. Read this list daily.

shining your light + not playing small :: what mark will you leave on the world?

By Tara Correll

How will I be remembered?

It’s a question I’ve pondered many times this year and analyzed, when a close friend died tragically over a decade ago. About a month prior to her death, we were on the phone, at the time she was working through “stuff”, I listened. I had no idea it was the last time we’d ever speak again.  Before saying goodbye, I’ll never forget Dana’s last three words of gratitude for our friendship were, “you inspire me”. That was it. About a month later, I got the devastating news.

This year was tough, the sudden loss of my Grandmother in March- she was “my moon + my stars”, nearly losing our son three days before his high school graduation, due to a freak accident - a clip to the side, while playing flag football, then death of my Aunt in July. I made the decision to take time to go inward… to catch my breath. With memorial services, a family reunion and Shane leaving for college in just over a month, this was the perfect time to self- reflect, re-frame my life and take stock of priorities.

See No Color and my coaching practice, was close to launch, I had worked tirelessly preparing, but was this the right thing, at the right time?

Many of my friends, family and acquaintances had lived through similar circumstances over the last two years.  I wasn’t alone in the myriad of experiences and obstacles that challenge our faith: divorce, finances, jobs, illness, death, or simply just feeling “stuck”.  I accepted quiet solitude and the knowing that I could access family and the dearest of friends, by simply “being” with people and basking in their presence. Life seemed to just “show up” for me in the most unexpected ways, offering renewed confidence, in the life I’d created and a sense of belonging. The idea that adverse circumstances and situations often times are the impetus of reframing our existence is a powerful one.

During times of personal crisis, it begs the question…

What innate gifts do I possess? How plentiful are my emotional reserves, will I be remembered, am I significant?  When you are conscious in this life, are aware that there is no time to waste, are willing and ready to receive by bravely letting go of fear + realizing your inherent gifts: LIFE PRESENTS ITSELF.

        Shine on baby.

A quote from author and minister Marianne Williamson, from A Return To Love.  Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world .  There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

The Gift of a Gratitude Share (and how to hold one)

By Sue Urda

MP900309568.JPG
"If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you,
that would suffice.”

~ Meister Eckhart

The longtime holiday of Thanksgiving is a perfect reminder of one of the most sacred spiritual practices we can bring into our lives; the practice of gratitude. Practicing gratitude serves us on so many levels including better health, greater success, improved relationships and an increased sense of happiness and well-being. A daily practice of gratitude brings ease, peace and joy into your life faster than any other single thing you can do.

Holding a Thanksgiving Gratitude Share at Your Gathering

Kids and adults alike love a good gratitude share. Even if they are wary or reticent when you start, you will see a smile on their faces and feel the love in their hearts as the share takes place. A group gratitude share can take place anytime throughout your holiday celebration. You may choose to do it before or during your meal, before or after a prayer, over cocktails and appetizers or while taking a walk. The place or time doesn’t matter; it is the intention that counts. (Note: it is not recommended during the football game. ~ lol)

Steps for a Gratitude Share:

1. GATHER everyone and tell them you’ll be doing a gratitude share. Let them know why you’re doing it… “We have so much to be grateful for and since it is Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun and wonderful for all us of to tell everyone the things they are most grateful for.”

2. ASK for someone to start.  You can choose to go around the table or circle or you can do a free style and invite them to chime in as they are so inspired.

3. SETTING A THEME is an option. You can ask them to share something they are grateful for about something specific: someone in the room, something at work or school, something they learned, someone they met, a special experience they had, a goal they achieved or wish that came true. A specific theme may help stimulate the share getting started and then you can open it up to any subject as they become more comfortable. TIP: You can even create pieces of paper with themes and let them pick their theme out of a basket to share.

4. HOW LONG does it last? Your gratitude share can be a few short minutes or it can go on as long as you like. You’ll find that some of the shares will illicit memories and great conversation making your holiday celebration even more memorable.

YOUR Gratitude Share Serves to Raise the Vibration of People and the Planet

It’s true! Sharing gratitude raises the mood and vibration of ourselves, everyone we share it with and the space we’re in; and these good feelings and vibes go on to raise the vibration of the planet and people everywhere. Hearing what others are grateful for is a great reminder of things we may have forgotten or that we take for granted therefore bringing more awareness of the good in our own lives. The Law of Attraction tells us that being grateful brings to us even more things to be grateful for ~ and we could all benefit from that!

Wishing You and Yours a Happy Thanksgiving filled with much love, many blessings and great joy!

A few Food tips for preventing a Stroke

By Debbie Dusylovitch

Are you aware that strokes can strike without a warning?  A stroke occurs when the blood vessels leading to the brain bursts or is blocked by a blood clot, and starves the brain cells of oxygen and nutrients.  Strokes have become the number three killer in theU.S.Here are five foods that are known to lead to strokes.

1. Crackers, chips, and store-bought pastries and baked goods

Muffins, doughnuts, chips, crackers, and many other baked goods are high in trans- fats, which are made from hydrogenated oils. It is very popular with commercial bakeries because they stay solid at room temperature and doesn’t require refrigeration.  Partially hydrogenated oils are another trans- fat.  It is found in all kinds of snack foods, frozen foods, and baked goods, including salad dressings, microwave popcorn, stuffing mixes, frozen tater tots, french fries, cake mixes, and whipped toppings.  The worst offenders are fried fast foods such as onion rings, french fries, and everyone’s favorite, fried chicken.

Trans- fats are artery-blockers, and it’s causing strokes.  Trans- fats cause inflammation and will increase your risk of diabetes and heart disease. Limit trans- fats and avoid fast-foods.  Make your own cookies and cakes from scratch.

 2. Smoked and processed meats

Pastrami, sausage, salami, hot dogs, bacon, or just smoked turkey are contributors to strokes.  The preserving process requires sodium and preservatives.  Each help keep the meats fresh but in turn are damaging to our blood vessels and are causing  the arteries to harden and narrow.  When you have damaged, and narrow blood vessels a stroke may soon follow. A stroke is not the only concern for us cold cut fans.  Studies have shown that cured and smoked meats have increased the risk of diabetes and of numerous types of cancer, including leukemia.  Try to vary your diet by switching to tuna, eggs or some other choices during the week.   Cook a turkey or a chicken for dinner and enjoy the leftovers for lunch.

3. Diet soda

Although replacing sugary drinks with diet soda seems like a smart solution for keeping our weight down,  it turns out diet soda isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.  People who drink a diet soda may increase their risk of having a stroke by 48 percent.  Drinking a diet soda regularly, will increase your risk of having a stroke to 60 percent.  Substitute more water for soda in your diet.  If you don't like water, try lemonade, iced tea, or juice.

4. Red meat

Red meat has a high saturated fat content, which isn’t healthy for those looking to prevent heart disease and strokes.  Saturated fats in red meat, raises the risk of stroke and heart disease by gradually clogging arteries with a buildup of protein plaques.  Also the hemoglobin in the red meat has a high iron content.  This may be causing strokes also.  Blood becomes thicker and more viscous when consuming iron.  Substitute more poultry,  fish, or other white meat that are low in iron.

5. Canned soup and prepared foods

Canned soups, canned pastas, or frozen dinners, rely on salt to increase their flavors. Canned soups are the worst offenders. Salt or sodium directly affects the risk of having a stroke. Sodium is known to raise blood pressure, the primary cause of a stroke.  It comes in many different forms:

  • Baking soda
  • Baking powder
  • MSG (monosodium glutamate)
  • Disodium phosphate
  • Sodium alginate

Whenever possible, make your own soups and entrees.  Fresh is always better.

With less Sunshine, are you getting Enough Vitamin D?

By Debbie Dusylovitch

There are many foods in our supermarkets that contain some form of Vitamin D which are added synthetically, but there are only a select number of foods containing vitamin D in them naturally.

Normally our bodies take in Vitamin D from the sun and through the skin.  In this day and age, we find ourselves spending  more hours inside our homes, cars and shopping malls, and then probably at work.  Our actual exposure to the sun has become very limited. This may be why so many of us are experiencing a large number of physical ailments, including depression.

Make sure you add Vitamin D to your diet daily. It can be in the food that you eat or taken by supplement.

Here is a list of foods that contain Vitamin D as well as some of the benefits.

Shitake & Button Mushrooms:

Dried versions of shiitake mushrooms are high in Vitamin D. This is because the mushrooms suck up the sunlight.  Make sure that you find mushrooms that have been dried in the sun, not by artificial means.

Sockeye Salmon:

A 3½ ounce portion of cooked salmon will give a good dose of vitamin D. Make sure to purchase salmon that has been caught from the wild. Salmon eat plankton, an excellent source of vitamin D.

Catfish:

Here is another fish that makes a habit of feeding on plankton; catfish are constantly taking in minuscule sea life that create vitamin D from sunlight.

Tuna fish:

Fresh, wild-caught tuna is the most nutritious. Remember, eating oily fish can also lubricate the body with “good fats.  In turn, the health benefits provide better memory and brain function.

Eggs:

Eggs have a small amount of vitamin D.  The best bet would be to eat free-range eggs from a local farm.

Sunshine:

Obviously the sun is not food, but a daily dose of sunshine can seriously increase your Vitamin D intake.  When sunlight hits the skin, the sun’s rays stimulates the production of vitamin D.  For those of you who live in colder and cloudier climates, you will have to supplement your diet. This is why the Native Inuit people in Alaska eat a lot of fish. If you are a vegetarian, you will either have to take supplements or try to get out into the sunshine as much as possible.

Health Benefits of Vitamin D:

There are many reasons to stock up on foods containing vitamin D. Health benefits of the vitamin include:

·         It helps prevent chronic diseases, cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.

·         It helps protect and lubricate your bones, teeth and hair.

·         It helps regulate cellular growth and promotes healthy cell activity

·         Protects against adult osteoporosis

  • It helps reduce the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women
  • Reduces  the occurrence of prostate cancer in African-American men

Are you a busy mom or busy professional opting for choices that are not the healthiest for you or your family?  You can now sit down for dinner and have nourishing home cooked meals fully prepared in your home without the high calories and high sodium content. Are you aware of the Top 5 Food Allergies

By Debbie Dusylovitch
We as humans can be allergic to any number of things and there are a few foods that are usually high on the list.  The reactions usually begin at a young age.  Some lucky individuals are fortunate enough to grow out of the food allergies as they age.  On the other hand, some people might not realize they have a food allergy until they are an adult.  The common symptoms with food allergies are hives, dermatitis, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory distress, and anaphylactic shock.  With that being said, here the top 5 most common foods that human beings are allergic to.
  1. Milk – Children are by far the most likely to have allergies to milk.  Some children grow out of this allergy during their early childhood.  Others find they remain allergic to milk their whole life. Lots of substitutions have come on the market over the years and there are many to choose from such as rice, soy and almond milk products.
  2. Tree nuts - Allergies to nuts are the most dangerous and possibly the most deadly food allergy in existence.  Some examples of tree nuts are: walnuts, Brazil nuts, pistachios, almonds, and cashews. Be very careful in buying mixes and pre-made items. Most will list ingredients if made with nuts or nuts are produced in the factory
  3. Peanuts – The amount of people who are allergic to peanuts is just about the same as the number of people who are allergic to tree nuts.  Individuals allergic to peanuts must also be aware that a lot of foreign cultures use nuts in their cooking such as Asian or Mexican dishes. Always carry an Epi pen for safety measures.
  4. Wheat –   Many children and adults are now finding that they are becoming allergic to wheat.   It’s an allergy that can be very difficult and expensive to overcome. Most of the products on the market are wheat based and it is in everything from sauces to baked goods, to pre-made items etc. Since more and more people are becoming allergic to wheat luckily most of the local grocery stores are beginning to carry more and more gluten-free items. Over the years the taste has gotten much better and sometimes it is difficult to even determine the difference between the too.
  5. Eggs –Almost 1.5% of American children are allergic to eggs.  Hopefully most children outgrow this allergy by the time that they are three years old. Pay attention to your child if they are having some type of reaction to a certain food. Many children will say I hate this particular food and it’s not because of the taste. Usually it’s because the body is letting them know it doesn’t agree with it.
