Art is an expression of color and feeling and each person will view it differently, according to his/her likes and dislikes. Artwork decorates your home, bringing out the colors and hues in the walls and décor. When remodeling your home, think about how it will enhance your favorite print, painting, or photograph. As an experienced designer for over 20 years, I can help you incorporate your artwork and treasured photographs into your project.
When exploring the world of art, we come to realize that art forms are as unique as our personalities and characteristics. When remodeling your home, think about how your newly remodeled home and new decor will work with your collection of art and photographs. We can design and present to you CAD drawings of your new home remodel incorporating the artwork you love and cherish, even before your remodeling project begins.
Carefully finding the best location to bring out the best in your art collection, along with good color combinations, will not only be eye-catching, it will bring the focus on the art pieces. A designer will help you create an arrangement of accessories in your home, which can bring out the colors in your decor.
Another thing to consider is how light will play on the artwork in the room, especially if there is a great deal of sunlight. Natural lighting in the morning and the afternoon will make colors appear differently. With a properly planned lighting design, you will find that situating artificial light, such as spotlights, can bring out the colors in your art.
Of course, there is nothing as beautiful as a piece of artwork that you are passionate about, however, you can also affect how a viewer’s eyes are guided toward the art by the choice of matting and frames. With the many choices in matting and frames, your designer will help you choose the best suited for your (grouping of) art.
Many people are in a quandary when it comes time to hang a painting. Most people erroneously believe a painting should be hung at eye level. However, we all come in many different shapes and sizes. If a 6’3” man and a petite woman of 5’1” are looking at the same painting, it might appear to be too low or too high, depending on who is looking at it.
To gauge the correct height of a painting, measure the distance to the furniture below it. A picture should be six to eight inches above a sofa or eight to ten inches above most other furniture. If placed any higher than that, it will seem disengaged from the furniture and put the rest of the room off balance. A well-planned design will show your contractor where to appropriately mount your art.
When hiring a design-build remodeler for your new space remember to mention your most precious art collection and photographs. A design-build remodeler will help you incorporate your treasures into your home remodel to create a completely improved space full of your beautiful art and fond memories.

Mothers are Powerful!
Do you know how powerful you are? Love is power, and there is not many greater loves than that of a mother for her child! Mothers will go to great lengths to keep her children safe...
In Georgia, a teenage boy got trapped under his car, when his jack failed. His mother, lifted the car, weighing approximately 3,500 pounds, and held it up for 5 minutes until help came!
In Ivujivik, Canada, a mother saw a large polar bear heading toward her 7yr old boy and his 2 friends. Without a thought, she ran to the bear and wrestled it to the ground! The bear was approximately 8 feet tall and 700 pounds!
These are true stories, there are many more like this. I've heard it said that the most dangerous place to be is between a mum and her child. A mothers instinct is to protect her child no matter what. This instinct gives her strength beyond normal. You can use this strength as a source of power! Whatever you fear can more easily be conquered if you are doing it for the benefit of your child.
My motherly instinct helped me to get over my fear of talking to new people. I knew for my children's sake I had to get past this fear to build a good life for my kids with good friendship connections. There have also been many times when I've spoken up for my children when normally I would be too afraid to say anything.
Do you have any irrational fears? Irrational fears are fears that don't benefit us, for example - afraid of heights, tight spaces, public speaking etc. You can conquer your fear, your strength as a mother may help you get past these fears.
Some mothers are driven by their love for their children to do extraordinary things, or achieve great successes. What things would you like to achieve for yourself and your children?
All that we go through as mums, makes us grow into a more
stronger person. Do you remember what you were like before you
had your child/children? No doubt having a baby turned your life
upside down, and also made you grow as a person. You are
powerful! You have the strength inside you to build a great life
for yourself and your children. Once you believe it - you can

If you are short on time, it pays to be organized in the kitchen. Remember to pre-heat the oven and chop your vegetables ahead. If you ever watch Rachael Ray or any of the other famous cooks on TV, you’ll notice it’s best to have all your ingredients in front of you before cooking. It will save lots of time in the long run.
To ease meal prep and keep your cutting board from sliding around, just place a wet paper towel underneath the board prior to use. It makes cutting vegetables and slicing meat much safer.
Onions come in many different sizes but if you find a recipe that doesn’t call for an entire onion, try cutting off what you need to use from the top stem area and peel only that part away. Leave the skin and the root attached to the portion you’re not planning to use, and store in a plastic bag or saran wrap. The root and skin will keep your onion from drying out and allow you to save the onion for up to a week in your refrigerator.
Did you know you can buy fresh herbs in bulk and dry them on your own in the microwave. Simply wrap the herbs in a paper towel, heat on high for 1-2 minutes until herbs are dry and brittle, store them in Ziploc bags or plastic containers. Many times I buy parsley, rosemary and oregano and just dry them on the counter if you have enough counter space.
I’ll bet that many of you are not aware that March is National Nutrition Month. What better time to reaffirm your fading New Year’s resolutions and take an active role in improving your health!
As you continue to gain knowledge about what you should, and should not, put into your body, more people are coming to realize that the quality of food; especially a large variety of fruits and vegetables, is necessary, not only to achieve great health, but to actually slow down the aging process! Chronic inflammation is a major factor in debilitating diseases, and persistent inflammation is frequently linked with cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, aging and autoimmune diseases such as asthma, lupus and arthritis. Well guess what? Fruits and vegetables not only reduce inflammation, but they help prevent diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Dr. David Bjerklie, M.D. is quoted as saying: “The news isn’t that fruits and vegetables are good for you. It’s that they are so good for you that they could save your life.”
There are many reasons why vegetables are vital in your diet. Vegetables are rich sources of antioxidants, which attack the cells that cause the body to decay, vitamins, minerals and fiber. Vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips and Brussels sprouts are especially helpful in fighting toxins and cancer. They have a high concentration of both antioxidants and sulfur, which provide your body with energy and keep your skin healthy. Eating these, and all vegetables raw, or just lightly cooked, enhances their protective properties, thereby making them even more effective!
Next we’ll look at fruit. Fruits, such as avocados, are full of monounsaturated fat, which is believed to help reduce levels of bad cholesterol in our bodies. Avocados are high in potassium, which decreases fluid retention, high blood pressure and the risk of stroke. They also contain a high level of Vitamin E, which among other things, is thought to prevent skin aging. They may also be helpful in reducing the hot flashes associated with menopause. Lastly, avocados are rich in folate, which is thought to reduce the risk of heart attacks, as well as antioxidants, which once again protects your body from free radicals, thereby keeping your organs and tissues healthy. Also, let’s not forget the importance of adding berries to your diet. Berries, especially the dark ones, such as blueberries, blackberries, black currants and black grapes are rich in antioxidants. They also help the body maintain good balance, coordination and short term memory.
Fish should also be added to your regular diet. Certain types of fish are high in the ever important Omega-3 fatty acids. These acids are not only good for your skin (preventing dryness and eczema, while promoting firmness and elasticity), but they have been proven to improve one’s moods and mental capacities. Like fruits and vegetables, they also contain antioxidant properties, which as stated earlier, help ward off chronic inflammation, which can lead to all sorts of health complications. Two popular fish that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids are salmon and tuna.
Lastly, let’s talk about the importance of having nuts in your diet. Yes, they are high in calories, but you do not need to eat a lot of them to reap their benefits, which include protein, fiber and crucial minerals such as potassium, iron, zinc and magnesium. They are known to be good for both digestive and immune systems, they help to fight cancer, and as a bonus, the oils are good for your skin! They are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep both your brain and our body healthy. Some of the best types of nuts are almonds, pecans, cashews, walnuts, Brazil nuts, macadamias and pistachios.
So what are you waiting for? Spring, the time of new beginnings, is just around the corner, so begin to take control of your life by being proactive with what you eat. Reap the countless benefits good nutrition provides, and live a long, healthy life!
